Summary
YesChef (“the App”) is a personal cookbook app for iOS. We do not operate our own servers and do not collect, transmit, or sell your personal data.
Your recipes, cookbooks, shopping lists, meal plans, and other content are stored on your device and in your personal iCloud account, which is managed by Apple under Apple’s Privacy Policy.
iCloud Storage & Sync
YesChef uses Apple’s iCloud (CloudKit) to sync your data across your devices. This includes:
- Recipes, ingredients, instructions, and images
- Cookbooks and collections
- Shopping lists and items
- Meal plans and presets
- Tags and household information
This data is stored in your personal iCloud account, not on servers we own or operate. Apple’s iCloud terms and privacy policies govern how iCloud data is stored and protected.
Sharing & Collaboration
YesChef lets you share recipes, shopping lists, and other content with household members or other people you invite using iCloud Sharing.
When you share content, the invited participants can view or edit the shared items through their own iCloud account. Sharing is entirely managed through Apple’s CloudKit sharing infrastructure. We do not have access to shared data or participant information.
Network Requests
YesChef makes network requests in the following situations, always initiated by you:
- Recipe import: When you import a recipe from a URL, the App fetches that web page to extract recipe data. The URL you provide is not stored or shared by us.
- Social media import: When importing from social media, the App may contact third-party services (such as the TikTok oEmbed API) to retrieve publicly available post metadata like titles and thumbnails.
These requests are made directly from your device. We do not route them through our own servers, and we do not log or collect any browsing or import activity.
On-Device Processing
YesChef uses Apple’s on-device intelligence features for tasks such as:
- Parsing recipe text from images (OCR)
- Structuring ingredients and instructions from unformatted text
- Transcribing speech from video content
All of this processing happens entirely on your device using Apple’s built-in frameworks (Foundation Models, Vision, Speech). No text, images, or audio are sent to external servers for processing.
Information We Collect
None. We do not collect personal information, identifiers, location data, usage analytics, advertising data, or diagnostics. The App does not contain any analytics SDKs, advertising frameworks, or third-party trackers.
Third-Party Services
We do not integrate third-party analytics, advertising SDKs, crash reporting tools, or tracking services of any kind.
The only third-party library used in the App is SwiftSoup, an open-source HTML parser used locally on your device for recipe extraction. It does not transmit any data.
Note: Apple and the App Store may process information as part of providing the App Store, iCloud, and device services. This is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy, not ours.
Data Retention & Deletion
We do not store any of your data on our servers. All app data lives on your device and in your iCloud account.
You can delete your data at any time using either method:
- In-app deletion: Open YesChef > Settings > Leave YesChef. This permanently removes all your recipes, cookbooks, shopping lists, meal plans, tags, and household data from your device and iCloud.
- Delete the app: Removing YesChef from your device deletes local data. To also remove iCloud data, go to iOS Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Manage Storage and delete YesChef data.
Children’s Privacy
YesChef is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since the App does not collect personal data from any user, no special data handling for children applies.
Changes to This Policy
If we ever change how the App handles data, we will update this page and revise the effective date above. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
